Preface
The above link leads to the most updated ruleset. If there are differences between this version and the one linked, inform admins in an ahelp or in our Discord.

Most rules are common sense and it would therefore be impossible to list all the things you could do to get yourself banned. This page is not acting as a complete list of bannable offenses — it instead aims to clear up some confusion about those rules that may not be obvious.
This section of our Wiki describes the ruleset currently used on our server. If you have questions regarding these rules ask one of the admins currently online.

Abbreviations and Acronyms
A Note About Roleplay
FTL13 is a medium roleplay server with higher/more roleplay being greatly encouraged. "Medium" is loosely seen in our server as having an environment in which you can roleplay a character yet still have room for shenanigans and humor. In other words, you should consider your character to be a separate entity from you as a player. Your character's actions and feelings in-game should be based solely on your character's experiences and not your own as the player. It is also encouraged (but not required as it is on other servers) to use role play dialogue before making split decisions such as using lethal force against another character.

Abbreviations for common terms used on the server:
Common rules
* RP: Roleplay - To take up a character and act like they would, performing out their emotions, feelings, characteristics and actions.
#Admin Discretion - Admins (not Mods or Mentors) retain the authority to ignore the following rules at their discretion when they feel it's in the best interest of the current round/server/playerbase at large. However, they will be fully accountable for their actions should they choose to exercise this privilege. If an admin says something is a rule, and you disagree, FOLLOW WHAT THEY SAY AND MAKE A COMPLAINT ON THE FORUM. Do NOT excessively argue with them, you WILL receive a ban or extension on your ban.
* IC: In Character - When you are Roleplaying and are in your character.
##Rules as intended - Just because you bend the wording of a rule into a pretzel and don't break the specific RAW (Rule As Written) does not mean you didn't break the RAI (Rule As Intended). Rules can be subject to interpretation and if a staff member that is a Mod or above believes you broke a rule as it is INTENDED to function, you can expect the same consequences.  Rules as intended always trump the rules as written.
* OOC: Out of Character - This has two applications within the server:
#Do not try and spoil fun for other people - "Dickish" and "harassment" type of behavior is not allowed. This includes  your attitude towards staff. If you have a problem with a staff member's decision, show them respect and do what they say, then submit a staff complaint. Arguing with a staff member will more than likely get your punishment increased, and any report you make AFTER arguing might be thrown out because your punishment will be seen as deserved. On the other hand, you have some wiggle-room In Character (IC) since tempers can rise between characters for plenty of reasons. But, if you start shouting "NIGGER KIKE FAGGOT" IC, you can expect bad things to happen to you.
** Something done outside of your character, this may be a list of things but all boil down to things that would not been done while In Character.
#We are an ENGLISH ONLY server - Speaking other languages in OOC or deadchat is strictly FORBIDDEN. Our staff also speak only English, so you are required to speak it over staff PMs and Ahelps. IC there is a little bit of leeway if you throw in an occasional word or well-known phrase from another language, but entire conversations in other languages is a no-go. We follow the trope of "everyone in the future speaks English".
** To use the server wide OOC chat, where you may talk OOCly with other players about various things.
#No advertising/recruiting - Do not post byond:// links to other servers with the intention of luring players to a different server. People are more than welcome to play elsewhere, you're just being rude. Obviously, links to a different server to show a forum topic or any other harmless thing is perfectly fine. If you attempt to poach/recruit staff members, we reserve the right to laugh nervously while we tighten the leashes and silence your heresy.
* LOOC: Local Out of Character - Only the people near your character will see this out of character text.
#No ERP or 18+ sexual content - ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY - ERP, or Erotic Roleplay, is defined as roleplay that has a strong erotic element intended to elicit a sexual response from the receiver(s). It may involve two or more people or be done in front of spectators. This includes reading stories about ERP but not participating directly (WGW), or posting links to adult websites and images. Both consensual and nonconsensual ERP will be met with a PERMABAN.
SSD: Sudden Sleep Disorder - When a player disconnects or loses connection, his character will fall over and begin to sleep. This phenomenon is referred to as going ‘SSD.
#No ban evading - Defined as attempting to log into the server with a different account after one account was banned for any reason besides having an offensive ckey. This results in your current punishment being upgraded to a PERMABAN and your old account PERMABANNED as well. NO EXCEPTIONS!
* Antag: Antagonist - A player that has gotten an antagonist role, designed to add some chaos to the round to make things fun.
#No multikeying - Defined as logging into two separate accounts during the same round, usually to play with one account and observe with the other in order to get information your character wouldn't normally have. If you are caught multikeying, you will be PERMABANNED.
* Valid: Valid kill - A player who has committed such actions as to be deemed a “valid kill”. This usually applies to confirmed antags. A player who who intentionally roams the station looking for “valids” is known as a valid hunter.
#No griefing - Defined as the perceived intent of one player wanting to cause grief or annoyance to other players or to the server without any roleplay reason. The emphasis is on "intent". If an Admin or Mod believes that the players intent is to grief then action will be taken. You can appeal these actions on the Ban Appeals forum. Any damage to the ship or players caused by griefing can be repaired at an Admin's discretion. Some examples are:
* Murderboning: Excessive Killing - A player who excessively kills everyone in his path not because he has to but rather he wants to do so.
##A security officer using their weapons to kill crew members for low level crimes
* Self-Antag:  Self-Antagonization - Antagonizing without being marked as an Antagonist. Self Antaging refers to players who decide to do actions that normally only a Antagonist would do, i.e; Murdering other players, heavily damaging the station or causing chaos on a mass scale.
##A player attempts to break the ship or destroy ship equipment without good IC reason (Ejecting the core for no reason, throwing away valuable weapons or materials, etc.)
##Assaulting security officers just for the sake of grabbing their attention. There is some leeway for clowns etc, but slipping security officers during general quarters or during any dangerous situations will result in a ban.
##Although piracy is an IC law, shooting at NanoTrasen or SolGov ships for no reason is also bannable. If you want to RP becoming a pirate or rebel, ahelp it first. Don’t just start firing at neutral or allied ships without ahelping it first.
##Breaking (into) shit for no reason other than to break it is griefing. If you are breaking into an area it should be because of an emergency or another important reason.
#No Powergaming - As a Non-Security & Non-Command crew member, you're not an experienced soldier. Do not rush into danger without a good reason to do so. Do not collect dangerous items, weapons, or rare tools "just in case". Use reasonable self-defense; do not try to kill your attacker in revenge, especially after conflict has already ended. Do not call the escape shuttle without a proper reason, and do not recall it needlessly. Do not run around with all of the genetic powers, three buffing viruses and the entire armory in your backpack. This rule does not apply to antagonists (including boarding parties). During General Quarters however, security and command staff are allowed to arm themselves in preparation of danger if there is any actual requirement for it (This does not mean that every time there is ship to ship combat, everyone needs rifles, but if there is an actual danger of boarders or antags, you are allowed to obtain weapons and/or gear). Some examples of powergaming are:
##A Head of Security running around with the sniper rifle when there is no direct danger (Boarders, xenomorphs etc.)
##A crew member hacking into EVA to get a hardsuit “just in case”. (This is also considered griefing)
##Going salvaging and taking rare loot for yourself instead of handing it in. Especially if you are not a shaft miner.
#No Metagaming or Metacommunication - Acting upon knowledge your character does not have, for example things you see as a ghost, or things your character has no way of knowing or communicating information about the current round, including but not limited to private discussions, chat rooms, and/or voice chats during the game. Some examples are:
##Seeing xenomorphs as a ghost and warning the crew about it once you are cloned or otherwise respawned.
##Talking to your friends on VOIP (such as Skype or Discord) or a chat about the current round while you are both playing. (Especially avoid VOIP if you are both playing, even if you don’t mean to metacommunicate, you will probably still spurt out when you die or get frustrated.)
#No IC in OOC or vise-versa - Keep IC (In-Characteir) in IC and OOC (Out-Of-Character) in OOC. OOC should never be used to inform a player of something they wouldn't know or find out IC, such as a dead player using OOC to inform someone that they are in their body and can be cloned.
#Regarding Suicide, rage-quitting, and logging off - You won't be punished for logging out after a round starts (Unless you are a head or very important position), but it would be a big help if you first enter a cryo tube and Ghost (IC tab > Ghost verb) before you leave if you're able. This will release your job slot for a new player to take it. If you instead suicide or immediately ghost without first getting into a cryo tube near round-start (meaning you simply didn't want to play the role and took the job slot from someone who did), you may receive a job-ban, since you obviously didn’t want to play that role anyways. Set up your job preferences carefully in Setup Character > Occupation Preferences.
#Use common sense - If you suspect something might lead to you being banned, it probably is bannable. The rules cannot cover all possible cases. If you are not sure whether something would be considered against the rules, use adminhelp. Keep in mind that different admins can have different opinions on some actions, and sometimes an action can be considered against the rules in some circumstances but not in others. If you were told something was okay once, it does not mean you can do it again.

Roleplay Rules
#Lethal Force - Do not physically attack any other crewmember without a legitimate, explainable, roleplay reason that could be applied in a similar, real-life scenario. Even if you are justified, you are still susceptible to Ship Law.
##Beating a clown repeatedly on Harm intent for slipping you once.
##Shooting at fleeing criminal that committed only minor crimes with a lethal gun when they’re not shooting at you.
##Assaulting someone for cutting in front of you in the XO’s line.
#Use a reasonable, lore-friendly character name - Your character must have a unique first and last name. One-word nicknames are allowed inside the name (e.g. Derek 'Double-D' Donahue, Jane 'Crusher' Sanchez) . Ranks, titles, honorifics, offensive, famous and/or pop-culture names are not allowed (e.g. Dr John Smith, Barack Obama, Lt John Doe, Adolf Hitler). Clowns, mimes, and wizards do not have to follow this rule. Clowns, mimes, silicons, and wizards have some leeway with this rule. However, when in doubt, ahelp about questionable names. Certain races, such as plasmamen and lizards, have unique naming formats Please consult the wiki or ask an admin if you have any questions about a race’s naming procedure.
#Do not mutiny, unless... - Mutiny is not allowed unless a Mod or Admin clears it via Adminhelp. Also, you must follow these rules:
##The situation MUST be role-played.
##The captain MUST be given a chance to stand-down peacefully.
##Uninvolved crewmembers should be given the chance to remain uninvolved. They might shoot if they see you firing on the captain without a reason. Try to subdue them WITHOUT lethal force or explain the situation.
##Minimize losses. Use either non-lethal force ONLY, or give all crew members who oppose you a chance to stand-down .
##Do not start using lethals until you have been fired upon with lethals yourself.
#Do not act as antagonist when not one - If you commit crimes that may result in you receiving capital punishment as non-antagonist, you are breaking this rule. Do not cause excessive chaos as a non-antagonist. Do not act violently when being arrested or removed from an area you are not supposed to be in; using force to defend yourself in cases like that is not considered self-defense. If you are confused about whether you are an antagonist or not, you are not an antagonist.
This matters even more in FTL13 because we have significantly limited the amount of antagonists, and we focus on co-operation. If you are acting like a douchebag criminal constantly, expect to be banned. This is a server about working together.
#Demonstrate Clone Memory Disorder - If your character returns from the dead via cloning, cyborgization, or any other method, they should not remember anything related to their death and absolutely nothing they saw after they died. You retain your memories if you are revived by defibrillation or magic. If you get to return to a round as a different character, such as a personal AI, drone, adamantine golem, animal, space ninja, etc., you should not remember anything that happened before you became that new character. On the other hand, if the character had their brain removed while they were alive, as either a humanoid or cyborg, or had their soul taken with a soulstone, they retain all memories of their life.
#Have knowledge appropriate for your role - In all roles you should have at least scanned through the wiki page for that role once. Command positions however are intended to be filled by people who understand the workings of all those in their department and could do their job if necessary. The only exception being captain who is not expected to know the workings of every job on the ship, as captain you are only required to know the other bridge staff positions.
#Respect Ship Law and Standard Operating Procedure - This is a military vessel. You are expected to be a trained professional, or you wouldn’t be here. As such, you are expected to not commit any major crimes. You are allowed to break minor laws as long as it is roleplayed correctly. If you are stirring up shit without any proper roleplay involved you are breaking this rule. Command and security staff are expected to follow all Standard Operating Procedures and Ship Law. Failure to do so will result in a job-ban or even a game ban in extreme cases.

Rules
Role-Specific Rules
There are many rules that only apply to certain jobs, roles, creatures, and departments. These exist to deter powergaming, griefing, and being a dick in general. They should also be located on the wiki page for each role. Ignorance of your job’s rules is unacceptable. There are rules for nearly every job, even Chaplain.
Creatures
#Rules still apply to creatures. If you become a slime, monkey, etc. you keep your antagonist/non-antagonist status. Do not use your new form’s abilities as a means to grief.
#Do not split as a slimeperson in public places.
Silicons
#Follow Silicon Policy. It is located on the wiki.
#If a holoparasite causes human harm, any subsequent damage dealt to the host through the holoparasite should be considered self-harm.
#As a cyborg, do not ask for an obscene name and ahelp if you receive one.
#Although we can enjoy AI that find fun loopholes in their laws, obstructing the round on a default lawset is not allowed. Example: Not allowing the ship to de-port with a station because space travel is harmful.

Practice common sense while consulting these rules. The general idea counts, not the exact wording. The rules are guidelines for the server and should be interpreted to suit the situation at hand, not manipulated to suit your needs. As always, don't be a dick and you shouldn't have to worry about most of these.
Heads of Staff
#Never abandon the ship. You should never intentionally be on a different z-level from the ship without admin permission. This does not apply when docking with a station to retrieve an objective, though that should be delegated.
#Be active when playing a Head of Staff. If you’re playing a command role and need to go AFK, offline, or otherwise leave then adminhelp to notify admins. WHEN YOU LEAVE, DO NOT SUICIDE OR GO AFK on the spot unless it’s an emergency. Enter a cryopod to free up the job slot for someone else. Do not join a round as a Head of Staff if you know you cannot stay for the entire round.
#Do not play the department’s Head of Staff unless you have experience and a basic understanding of performing all of the department’s jobs.
#Know and follow Ship Law and Standard Operating Procedure.
#Heads of Staff are, unless otherwise stated, expected to follow the role-specific rules of their underlings in addition to their own.
Executive Officer
#Do not hand out all access like it’s candy on Halloween. Notify a department’s Head of Staff if you give someone access to their department if possible. This does not apply during emergencies, or when giving Engineers and Scientists additional access for the purposes of repairing and improving ship hull or equipment. Just ask yourself “Does this person need access to this location?”
#People should not be given additional access to do someone else’s job. For example, giving a Shaft Miner access to Science when Scientists are already working on research. This can lead up to said player powergaming.
#You are not a member of security, and should not involve yourself in security matters unless it is an emergency or you are Acting Captain.
Security Officer
#You are not some random mall cop, you are a trained soldier and should act like one at all times.
#Know and follow Ship Law and Standard Operating Procedure.
#Do not bucklecuff prisoners, except during searches or during evacuation aboard a shuttle or escape pod.
#The armory is for emergencies only. Do not take any gear from the armory without a serious reason, and return it when finished. #Confiscated weaponry should be stored in the armory, not carried around for personal use.  Yes, this includes the Sniper Rifle. And no, Ship-to-ship combat is not a valid excuse for opening up the armory. No, you can’t give the sniper rifle to R&D.
#If you have nothing better to do, try NOT to be a stone wall. Roleplay. Tolerate the lawyer, apply ship law in context, and so forth. This is more of a suggestion than a rule, but being a no-fun shitler can get you banned if it happens consistently.
#You are not Judge Dredd, you are an enforcer of ship security. You follow ship law above all else, and have no authority outside of that.
#Security Officers are held to a higher standard than John Q. Crewmember. Expect the other players/crewmembers to hold you responsible for the actions of Security as a whole. This does not mean you can fire the Captain because he wouldn’t give you extra access, all rules regarding mutiny and ship law still apply. Breaking security rules will lead to a jobban, very quickly.
Munitions Officer
#DO NOT EJECT AN ARMED SHELL FROM THE MAC. IT WILL EXPLODE. This is griefing.
#Listen to your Weapons Officer regarding what shell to load in the MAC. They know more about the situation than you do
#Do not let anyone into Munitions without good reason. You will be held responsible if anything bad happens.
Bridge Officer
#Do NOT fire on either NanoTrasen or SolGov unless either:
##An admin gives you permission.
##Your mission objectives state you have to.
#Follow the Chain of Command. Know who you do and don’t outrank.
#Do not fire a MAC shell unless it is targeting a hostile ship. Wasting MAC ammo is griefing.
#Do not FTL jump while docked with a station or landed on a planet. Bad things happen.
#Do not leave anyone behind, except in an emergency such as the engine overheating or the ship being fired on while landed on a planet. Note: Stations and planets despawn in FTL if they do not have an active telecomms relay. This removes anyone aboard from the game.
#Unless the other bridge officer is absent on the bridge and you have a good reason to do so, do not touch the other bridge officer’s console.

Rule 1: Listen to the admins.
Additional guidelines
:Please participate in votes. Feedback is always appreciated.
:Set your preferences to roles you intend to play. Nobody likes suiciding crew members.
:If you have a question, check the wiki. If that did not help, use adminhelp.
:Do not complain about lag. If lag happens, everyone already knows.

The Staff Members have final say on the server; if you are job-banned on the server, do not continue to drag the conversation on, but rather take it to the designated forum section.
How to ban appeal
If you feel the punishment you received is not fitting the actual infraction you did:
Join our forum and head to the Ban-Appeal section.
To ensure your ban get dealt with properly:

#Make sure to follow these rules
#Know what you did wrong and how to avoid that in future.

Ahelp is not to be spammed, a few messages is sufficient for admins to see and handle your request. If they do not get to it, they are either busy with others or not available. If this is the case, take your request to the forums if needed.
Remember, if you're unsure of anything, use ahelp.

If you have any issues with this set of rules, the administrators, players, or anything else, please report it on the forums.
If an admin asks you to stop arguing over the in-game PMs, you must stop but may take it to the forums in a private message.
We hope you have fun here and enjoy your stay!

Rule 2: Minor roleplay rules apply.
Minor roleplay rules apply. These prohibit such behaviours as:

Metagaming
Metagaming (the act of using OOC information in an attempt to gain an IC advantage) is not allowed. Examples of metagaming include:

* Placing current round information into OOC chat.
* Using LOOC to talk to others to give them current round information; applies to Ghosts as well.
* Using a third party program of any sort to communicate current round information to other players participating in the round.
* Using multiple accounts for yourself during a round is not allowed. If you are sharing an IP address or account with another player of the server, please contact administration and let them know.

When it comes to suiciding, do not suicide upon getting caught by a conversion antagonist. Not only is this a very dickish action, but you waste their time trying to do their job for nothing to gain.

Unserious/Improper character names
Unserious and Improper character names will be changed by an admin. If you continue to join rounds with unserious names, you may receive harsher consequences than just a name change. We allow names from video games and fantasy names, but forbid real life celebrity names or crude pun names.

Examples include but are not limited to: “Mike Hunt, Mike Hawk, Adolf Hitler, Donald Trump, John Cena, Barack Obama, xxhungdaddy69xx, gamergirlxd, Hugh Jass, Dick Payne.”

Note that some species may have names that can be perceived as failure to adhere to this rule but are acceptable, such as a Vox name of "Yakititah".

Use of Netspeak and Smilies in-character
The use of "Netspeak" (7h15 15 1337 sp33k) and "Smilies" (:D) are prohibited from use in IC verbal chat but are allowed through IC written text such as a sheet of paper or PDA messaging.

Rule 3: Interactions with people under SSD
You may not touch or interact with people under the influence of 'Sudden Sleep Disorder', except to pull them to Cryodorms and place them in a cryo sleeper. You may check if a person is SSD by examining their unconscious body; the text of “They have suddenly fallen asleep!” will appear if they are under the influence of Sudden Sleep Disorder.

Even if the person in question who goes SSD is wanted, you may not arrest them. Likewise, you may not kill them if they are your assassination target.

If the person is going SSD in a convenient manner for themselves to avoid the situation, please report it to an admin for them to assess the situation.

If the person in question goes SSD and they are your assassination target, or a key player in the round(IE: A Captain who has a disk on a Nukie round) you may ask administration if you may kill/loot their body.

Rule 4: Maintain a respectful environment for other players.
Maintain a respectable environment while on the server. Being offensive, trolling, flaming, flame baiting, hate speech, bigoted speech towards other players is not allowed - if you wouldn't want it said to you, don't say it to them.

Under no circumstances is harassment of another player allowed, regardless of who the victim is.

Racial, Homophobic, Ethnic, Religious, etc, slurs are not allowed IC or OOC. Exception: Inter-species racism (so long as no other rules are broken)is allowed as it is considered IC.

Excessive profanity in OOC is not allowed, keep profanity to a minimum and completely stop if it begins to upset other players or are asked to stop by a member of staff.

If an issue with another player arises during a round, communicate it clearly and maturely to an administrator. Venting your frustration to staff or other players via OOC/LOOC will not help the situation, only worsen it.

Do not use the server to advertise other servers or for other commercial interests.

Do not put down or invalidate any community and server, you can easily enjoy your time on a specific server without having to share your disinterest or plain criticism of other ones.

Rule 5: Impersonation is forbidden.
Impersonation of any community member, player or staff is strictly forbidden. This includes, but does not limit to:

*Logging on with a byond key near identical to that of a current Staff Member.
*Impersonation as a part of social engineering, such as posing as a Valve employee.

No excuses will be made on this, regardless of the reasoning behind the action. Impersonation attempts will be dealt with harshly if anyone is caught trying to impersonate anyone.

Rule 6: Play the Role you've chosen.
Choose the role based on what you want to spend the round doing.

If you choose a Head of Staff role such as ‘Chief Medical Officer' or ‘Captain’ you will be expected to play the role and fulfill the job, as long as you are not an antagonist. If you wish to leave the round early for any reason as a Head of Staff, radio in on command chat that you must leave and send an adminhelp to let staff know of your departure. Then store all the the job specific items you have in your locker before heading into cryo.

If for some emergency or technical issue you disconnect as a sensitive role and are job banned on the pretense of leaving without notifying an admin, a quick appeal on the forums explaining what happened will solve the issue and revert the job ban.

Joining the round as a job simply for the equipment and abandoning your post is not acceptable, you are expected to do your job reasonably well. Officers should enforce space law, members of medical are expected to staff medbay, etc.

Rule 7: Antagonists (including self-antag)
Station Destruction
The clean air of the station is for everyone to use, do not randomly poke holes in the station for no reason.

The use of bombs as a Non-Antag is only acceptable in the bomb range, mining asteroid, and other Z-level variants. If you wish to use bombs on the station for any reason such as a blob, alien infestation, ETC. contact administration and get their approval.

The use of bombs as an Antagonist is only acceptable on targets in areas away from primary hallways. You are responsible for knowing the power of your own bomb and knowing if it will breach a primary hallway. Ask an admin for guidance if you are unsure

Breaking friends out of security brig is allowed as a Non-Antag to the extent of minor damage to the station, bombing the station to release your friend is reserved for Antagonists. if you end up forcing Security to expend a large amount of time and effort on you, be prepared to have an admin speak to you.

Releasing the singularity or the tesla is reserved for those who have the "Hijack the Shuttle" Antagonist objective. Releasing the singularity or the tesla for any other reason will result in harsh consequences. If you feel like you want to use it, or got something from a traitor bundle for it, be sure to Ahelp it first and talk it out beforehand. It is still usually a bad idea.

Shuttle grief and end round grief
While in transit, shuttle grief is not allowed. Antagonists can still attempt to finish their targets off while the shuttle is in transit, but not by attacking large amounts of people.

Violence is allowed once the shuttle has docked and end round statistics are displayed.

Assault and Self-Defense
Self defense is allowed on the station to the extent of saving your own life. You may not put someone into a critical condition with a broken skull just because they threw a bottle at you. However, if you threaten to murder them and proceed to corner them, do not complain if they place you into critical condition to preserve their own life.

Minor assault (A few punches, throwing objects) on a person over a trivial matter is acceptable but expect to be arrested by security for doing so. If you feel like your character would react violently, you can always ask the person over LOOC if they do not mind. Keep in mind your RP shouldn’t create extra work for Medbay.

Clown and Mime
The Clown and Mime are not special in any aspects when in regards to this rule. They may prank the crew by slipping and other methods but they may not brutally beat someone to death for a gag nor may the crew beat them to death to spare the sanity of the station.

While pranking the crew on a basis is fine, doing it during high action or important events, such as Nuclear Ops attacking, breaching a malfunctioning Ai, or what not, will often get you attacked by the crew themselves during it or questioned by an admin concerning it.

Antagonist
The role of antagonist may pit you against the station, however this is not grounds for murderboning the entire crew if your objective is to steal a jetpack. You may, however, antagonize/murder specific people who will help you complete your objective or who are hindering you from completing said objective

However, while not a bannable offense, it is frowned upon to go SSD at round start before alerting an admin or instantly handing yourself into security forces.

It is not required to go after your objectives as an antag, but is heavily frowned upon if you don't at least make an attempt.

The “Hijack” traitor objective means you are able to do what ever you want during the round. However this does not exempt you from certain rules, such as blatant metagaming, highly racist or discriminatory insults, or ERP. Ahelp it if something you want to do feels like it might be too far.

Self-Antagging
Murdering someone because of a minor transgression is considered Self-Antagging and will result in a ban.

Breaking into high level areas in it of itself is not considered Self-Antagging but rather what you do in the area. (IE:Breaking into the armory and stealing all the E-guns.)

Petty theft is not considered self-antagging but stealing the high-value items without a reason will be considered as such.

Resisting arrest as a Non-Antag is allowed but murdering the officer after you cuffed him is not allowed.

Claiming your character is a psychopath and has mental disorders does not grant you permission to randomly murder people.

Rule 8: Valid-Hunting
Forcing random people to drink holy water on cult rounds without concrete evidence of them being cultist, randomly dragging people into the chapel on vampire rounds, abandoning your job to hunt, etc. are forms of valid hunting and will result in harsh consequences.

Rule 9: Artificial Intelligence
As the Artificial Intelligence has a lot of responsibilities, and thus also a lot of access to chaos. They are to be played with a level of common sense. Playing as the AI does not grant you immunity to any other server rules.

The order of the laws is what determines the priority of the laws, if two laws contradict each other you are to follow the one that is highest in the list, as it would overrule any contradictory laws that come under it.

Threatening an AI with self harm is not a valid way of trying to exploit the AI. If a crew member threatens to harms him/herself in an attempt to force the AI to do something the AI may simply ignore it, unless it specifically interprets self harm as a threat to the crew. This rule is slightly subjective as to what lawset the AI is on.

Attempting to change your own laws unless you are a Malfunctioning Ai may lead to a jobban. However if you suspect a change to your laws by someone else to be grief, adminhelp it and it will be looked into.

Rule 10: Corporate Security
Space law is there to dictate what is meant to happen to criminals that are caught, detailing their charges and giving them an appropriate punishment for their actions. Security forces are not the law, they are there to enforce the law, thus reading and correctly applying space law will help with admins not having to step in. Incorrect application of space law may result in affecting another player’s round negatively, thus causing an unwanted and avoidable issue. Incorrectly applying and or outright ignoring space law may result in a security jobban.

As security, you are to follow your SOP more ardently than other departments on the station and failure to comply with security SOP may result in a job ban.

Rule 11: Erotic Roleplay (ERP)
Erotic Roleplay is strictly forbidden on this server. Though we are certain some people find it natural and would like to RP their more intimate experiences the staff team has to look at the logs and see each sentence, emote, action. If you wish to ERP with another player use a third-party program like Skype.

Disclaimer: Getting caught ERPing on the server may result in being purged by a Death Squad.

Please note, these rules can be slightly outdated. Make sure to consult the rules on the server as well just in case.

The above link leads to the most updated ruleset. If there are differences between this version and the one linked, inform admins in an ahelp or in our Discord.

This section of our Wiki describes the ruleset currently used on our server. If you have questions regarding these rules ask one of the admins currently online.

Common rules

  1. Admin Discretion - Admins (not Mods or Mentors) retain the authority to ignore the following rules at their discretion when they feel it's in the best interest of the current round/server/playerbase at large.
    1. Rules as intended - Just because you bend the wording of a rule into a pretzel and don't break the specific RAW (Rule As Written) does not mean you didn't break the RAI (Rule As Intended). Rules can be subject to interpretation and if a staff member that is a Mod or above believes you broke a rule as it is INTENDED to function, you can expect the same consequences. Rules as intended always trump the rules as written.
  2. Do not try and spoil fun for other people - "Dickish" and "harassment" type of behavior is not allowed.
  3. We are an ENGLISH ONLY server - Speaking other languages in OOC or deadchat is strictly FORBIDDEN. Our staff also speak only English, so you are required to speak it over staff PMs and Ahelps. IC there is a little bit of leeway if you throw in an occasional word or well-known phrase from another language, but entire conversations in other languages is a no-go. We follow the trope of "everyone in the future speaks English".
  4. No advertising/recruiting - Do not post byond:// links to other servers with the intention of luring players to a different server.
  5. No ERP or 18+ sexual content - ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY - ERP, or Erotic Roleplay, is defined as roleplay that has a strong erotic element intended to elicit a sexual response from the receiver(s). It may involve two or more people or be done in front of spectators. This includes reading stories about ERP but not participating directly (WGW), or posting links to adult websites and images. Both consensual and nonconsensual ERP will be met with a PERMABAN.
  6. No ban evading - Defined as attempting to log into the server with a different account after one account was banned for any reason besides having an offensive ckey. This results in your current punishment being upgraded to a PERMABAN and your old account PERMABANNED as well. NO EXCEPTIONS!
  7. No multikeying - Defined as logging into two separate accounts during the same round, usually to play with one account and observe with the other in order to get information your character wouldn't normally have. If you are caught multikeying, you will be PERMABANNED.
  8. No griefing - Defined as the perceived intent of one player wanting to cause grief or annoyance to other players or to the server without any roleplay reason. The emphasis is on "intent". If an Admin or Mod believes that the players intent is to grief then action will be taken. You can appeal these actions on the Ban Appeals forum. Any damage to the ship or players caused by griefing can be repaired at an Admin's discretion. Some examples are:
    1. A security officer using their weapons to kill crew members for low level crimes
    2. A player attempts to break the ship or destroy ship equipment without good IC reason (Ejecting the core for no reason, throwing away valuable weapons or materials, etc.)
    3. Assaulting security officers just for the sake of grabbing their attention. There is some leeway for clowns etc, but slipping security officers during general quarters or during any dangerous situations will result in a ban.
    4. Although piracy is an IC law, shooting at NanoTrasen or SolGov ships for no reason is also bannable. If you want to RP becoming a pirate or rebel, ahelp it first. Don’t just start firing at neutral or allied ships without ahelping it first.
    5. Breaking (into) shit for no reason other than to break it is griefing. If you are breaking into an area it should be because of an emergency or another important reason.
  9. No Powergaming - As a Non-Security & Non-Command crew member, you're not an experienced soldier.
    1. A Head of Security running around with the sniper rifle when there is no direct danger (Boarders, xenomorphs etc.)
    2. A crew member hacking into EVA to get a hardsuit “just in case”. (This is also considered griefing)
    3. Going salvaging and taking rare loot for yourself instead of handing it in. Especially if you are not a shaft miner.
  10. No Metagaming or Metacommunication - Acting upon knowledge your character does not have, for example things you see as a ghost, or things your character has no way of knowing or communicating information about the current round, including but not limited to private discussions, chat rooms, and/or voice chats during the game. Some examples are:
    1. Seeing xenomorphs as a ghost and warning the crew about it once you are cloned or otherwise respawned.
    2. Talking to your friends on VOIP (such as Skype or Discord) or a chat about the current round while you are both playing. (Especially avoid VOIP if you are both playing, even if you don’t mean to metacommunicate, you will probably still spurt out when you die or get frustrated.)
  11. No IC in OOC or vise-versa - Keep IC (In-Characteir) in IC and OOC (Out-Of-Character) in OOC. OOC should never be used to inform a player of something they wouldn't know or find out IC, such as a dead player using OOC to inform someone that they are in their body and can be cloned.
  12. Regarding Suicide, rage-quitting, and logging off - You won't be punished for logging out after a round starts (Unless you are a head or very important position), but it would be a big help if you first enter a cryo tube and Ghost (IC tab > Ghost verb) before you leave if you're able.
  13. Use common sense - If you suspect something might lead to you being banned, it probably is bannable.

  1. Lethal Force - Do not physically attack any other crewmember without a legitimate, explainable, roleplay reason that could be applied in a similar, real-life scenario. Even if you are justified, you are still susceptible to Ship Law.
    1. Beating a clown repeatedly on Harm intent for slipping you once.
    2. Shooting at fleeing criminal that committed only minor crimes with a lethal gun when they’re not shooting at you.
    3. Assaulting someone for cutting in front of you in the XO’s line.
  2. Use a reasonable, lore-friendly character name - Your character must have a unique first and last name.
  3. Do not mutiny, unless... - Mutiny is not allowed unless a Mod or Admin clears it via Adminhelp. Also, you must follow these rules:
    1. The situation MUST be role-played.
    2. The captain MUST be given a chance to stand-down peacefully.
    3. Uninvolved crewmembers should be given the chance to remain uninvolved. They might shoot if they see you firing on the captain without a reason. Try to subdue them WITHOUT lethal force or explain the situation.
    4. Minimize losses. Use either non-lethal force ONLY, or give all crew members who oppose you a chance to stand-down .
    5. Do not start using lethals until you have been fired upon with lethals yourself.
  4. Do not act as antagonist when not one - If you commit crimes that may result in you receiving capital punishment as non-antagonist, you are breaking this rule.

  1. Demonstrate Clone Memory Disorder - If your character returns from the dead via cloning, cyborgization, or any other method, they should not remember anything related to their death and absolutely nothing they saw after they died.
  2. Have knowledge appropriate for your role - In all roles you should have at least scanned through the wiki page for that role once. Command positions however are intended to be filled by people who understand the workings of all those in their department and could do their job if necessary. The only exception being captain who is not expected to know the workings of every job on the ship, as captain you are only required to know the other bridge staff positions.
  3. Respect Ship Law and Standard Operating Procedure - This is a military vessel.

Creatures

  1. Rules still apply to creatures. If you become a slime, monkey, etc. you keep your antagonist/non-antagonist status. Do not use your new form’s abilities as a means to grief.
  2. Do not split as a slimeperson in public places.

Silicons

  1. Follow Silicon Policy. It is located on the wiki.
  2. If a holoparasite causes human harm, any subsequent damage dealt to the host through the holoparasite should be considered self-harm.
  3. As a cyborg, do not ask for an obscene name and ahelp if you receive one.
  4. Although we can enjoy AI that find fun loopholes in their laws, obstructing the round on a default lawset is not allowed. Example: Not allowing the ship to de-port with a station because space travel is harmful.

Heads of Staff

  1. Never abandon the ship. You should never intentionally be on a different z-level from the ship without admin permission. This does not apply when docking with a station to retrieve an objective, though that should be delegated.
  2. Be active when playing a Head of Staff.
  3. Do not play the department’s Head of Staff unless you have experience and a basic understanding of performing all of the department’s jobs.
  4. Know and follow Ship Law and Standard Operating Procedure.
  5. Heads of Staff are, unless otherwise stated, expected to follow the role-specific rules of their underlings in addition to their own.

Executive Officer

  1. Do not hand out all access like it’s candy on Halloween. Notify a department’s Head of Staff if you give someone access to their department if possible. This does not apply during emergencies, or when giving Engineers and Scientists additional access for the purposes of repairing and improving ship hull or equipment. Just ask yourself “Does this person need access to this location?”
  2. People should not be given additional access to do someone else’s job. For example, giving a Shaft Miner access to Science when Scientists are already working on research. This can lead up to said player powergaming.
  3. You are not a member of security, and should not involve yourself in security matters unless it is an emergency or you are Acting Captain.

Security Officer

  1. You are not some random mall cop, you are a trained soldier and should act like one at all times.
  2. Know and follow Ship Law and Standard Operating Procedure.
  3. Do not bucklecuff prisoners, except during searches or during evacuation aboard a shuttle or escape pod.
  4. The armory is for emergencies only.
  5. If you have nothing better to do, try NOT to be a stone wall. Roleplay. Tolerate the lawyer, apply ship law in context, and so forth. This is more of a suggestion than a rule, but being a no-fun shitler can get you banned if it happens consistently.
  6. You are not Judge Dredd, you are an enforcer of ship security. You follow ship law above all else, and have no authority outside of that.
  7. Security Officers are held to a higher standard than John Q.

  1. DO NOT EJECT AN ARMED SHELL FROM THE MAC. IT WILL EXPLODE. This is griefing.
  2. Listen to your Weapons Officer regarding what shell to load in the MAC. They know more about the situation than you do
  3. Do not let anyone into Munitions without good reason. You will be held responsible if anything bad happens.

Bridge Officer

  1. Do NOT fire on either NanoTrasen or SolGov unless either:
    1. An admin gives you permission.
    2. Your mission objectives state you have to.
  2. Follow the Chain of Command. Know who you do and don’t outrank.
  3. Do not fire a MAC shell unless it is targeting a hostile ship. Wasting MAC ammo is griefing.
  4. Do not FTL jump while docked with a station or landed on a planet. Bad things happen.
  5. Do not leave anyone behind, except in an emergency such as the engine overheating or the ship being fired on while landed on a planet. Note: Stations and planets despawn in FTL if they do not have an active telecomms relay. This removes anyone aboard from the game.
  6. Unless the other bridge officer is absent on the bridge and you have a good reason to do so, do not touch the other bridge officer’s console.

Additional guidelines

Please participate in votes. Feedback is always appreciated.
Set your preferences to roles you intend to play. Nobody likes suiciding crew members.
If you have a question, check the wiki. If that did not help, use adminhelp.
Do not complain about lag. If lag happens, everyone already knows.

How to ban appeal

If you feel the punishment you received is not fitting the actual infraction you did: Join our forum and head to the Ban-Appeal section. To ensure your ban get dealt with properly:

  1. Provide Logs
  2. Make sure to follow these rules
  3. Know what you did wrong and how to avoid that in future.
Remember, if you're unsure of anything, use ahelp.
If you have any issues with this set of rules, the administrators, players, or anything else, please report it on the forums.
We hope you have fun here and enjoy your stay!

Please note, these rules can be slightly outdated. Make sure to consult the rules on the server as well just in case.
