Guide to avoiding bans
Either you got banned or you're a new guy looking into how you to not get banned. Or maybe you wanna see how you can bend the rules because you're a butt. Either way, here goes.
Avoid Bannable Actions
If you don't want to be banned, don't do ban-worthy actions, both IC and OOC. If it doesn't quite seem ban-worthy but you're not too sure, it's safe to stay away from it, or you could adminhelp to check. Rules can be found here.
Comply With Admins/Mods
Just because you get messaged by an admin doesn't mean you're immediately in trouble; they could just be asking why you did something a certain way, or are asking for your point-of-view on a situation that happened. In the event you are in trouble, however, you should try to explain to the admin contacting why you did whatever it was you did in a calm fashion that doesn't provoke either party. Aggressively defending your actions or insulting an admin isn't a good way to resolve a situation, and is counterproductive overall.
Dealing With a Ban
Bans can range from a few minutes off the server to an actual permanent ban. Simple day bans should just be reflected on, and you can always join another SS13 server, or do something else while you reflect on what you've done. Permanent bans, however, are another matter. You will be unable to join the server while you are permabanned, likely because you broke an important rule and chose to not take responsibility for it. If you wish to rejoin the server, you will have to make a ban appeal on the forums, and the admin who banned you will look into the appeal and determine whether or not to let you back into the server. You can post your appeal here.
Dealing With a Permanent Ban
Going more in depth, permabans are reserved mostly for people who absolutely refuse to acknowledge what they did was wrong, didn't respond to admin contact, or were outright griefing. If you've been permabanned then you should probably take a break from the game for a while. This allows both you and the admin to cool off and try to exchange as much info as possible in your appeal. Post your appeal here. It's also a good idea to get some logs from your end and also read the rules over.
Dealing With a Job Ban
Job bans are basically bans that still allow you to connect to the server, but you will be unable to join the round as the job you're banned from, likely because you aren't qualified for it (Chief Engineer letting the engine blow up), abused the department equipment (shooting people with a syringe gun full of viruses as CMO without their consent), or didn't follow other important guidelines.
Reporting Unjust Actions
Admins and moderators are only human, and mistakes are bound to happen. Some admins, however, may overextend their authority/judgement and give you an unfair ban. In the event you feel that this has happened, contact Head Admin Floyd (Qustinnus) about it and, if it's worth investigating, post what you believe was unfair in the admin complaints forum.
